Last month Disney CEO Bob Iger said that they will start cracking down on password sharing on Disney Plus. They will now start making users pay to share their passwords from September.
In an announcement on Wednesday, Disney Plus added an “extra member” option. This extra member option will cost $6.99 for Disney+ Basic and $9.99 for Disney+ Premium monthly.
According to the company, this new extra member offering will let you share your subscription with a friend or family member who does not live in the same household.
This also only applies if you have a standalone Disney+ subscription and not a bundle with Hulu or ESPN Plus and other services.
Here is a look at the listing of extra members.
However, there are some restrictions also to using this type of subscription. According to the company, the extra members will be restricted to one profile and they can only stream or download on one device at a time.
There is also a condition that extra members “cannot have an active Hulu subscription, or an active or canceled Disney+ or ESPN+ subscription.”
If you are watching Disney+ away from home, then you might see a new message that says “This TV doesn’t seem to be part of the Household for this account.” However, the company says that you can bypass this by marking yourself as away from home or updating your household address.
Currently, the company is launching the extra member option in the US, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
After Netflix started charging for password sharing on their platform, Disney has been hinting to do the same. Now, the company has started rolling out a crackdown on password sharing.
