Microsoft’s appetite for a rebranding strike again with Copilot in focus at this time. The company has a history of picking bad names for its products and then reversing or changing them to something else.
One such name was “Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Professional Edition”. If you remember this name, then you’ve experienced firsthand what Microsoft does. Now, the company has set its sights on Copilot, its AI-powered assistant.
You may remember, “Windows Phone 7 Series” and then it was rebranded to just “Windows Phone 7. Or When they called it the “Windows Store” and then changed it to the “Microsoft Store”. The Xbox controller also bears the complicated official title of “Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.”
So, Microsoft has a habit of changing product names or rebranding a product, sometimes for clarity, and sometimes for the fun of it.
This time, Copilot has found itself in the crosshair of its rebranding efforts. According to a report, Microsoft is thinking of rebranding the Copilot with a different name. The details of the change are still under wraps but it is going to happen soon. The Copilot is not getting as much traction as Microsoft hoped it would.
Microsoft thinks that by rebranding the product, they can make Copilot a mainstream chatbot. As I’ve stated earlier this move perfectly aligns with Microsoft’s tendency to rebrand products.
Now, we are left to wonder what the future holds for Copilot’s new identity. Will they come up with a more streamlined name or with a stumper that only Microsoft’s marketing team will love?
