Amazon users are opting to cancel their Prime memberships as soon as they realise that shopping on the platform could be more economical without the subscription fee of $139.
A woman recently recounted her experience in a TikTok video of sending a link for drill bits to verify the pricing, and her friend’s friend got them for $12 whereas, on her account,t it was listed at $16. The insight emerged when she realised that her friend was not a Prime member.
She added that he got discounts on items whereas she although being a member had to pay more. The video got over 100,000 comments where a lot of users have expressed that they have also cancelled their Prime memberships for the same reason.
As per Amazon’s website, Prime members get free shipping for two days on millions of items they want and on over 15 million items they would get free one-day shipping. Yet, consumers have insisted that the shipping costs are added to the price of items.
A user also noted in the comments that shopping without Prime could be more affordable as if users spend over $25 shipping would be free for them. Other Amazon users have voided their justification regarding orders that did not arrive on time within the promised time frame of two days.
Earlier this year, Amazon faced a class action against a lawsuit alleging that the company failed to fulfil its guaranteed delivery for some purchases, however, the case was dismissed later in June by a judge in Seattle. Last year also, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accused Aamzon in a lawsuit for abusing its market power, it was said that Amazon restraints the ability of sellers on the platform to provide better prices to buyers on other platforms. Amazon was accused of exploiting its market dominance along with other allegations.
