Apple’s next major leap in mobile technology may very well be foldable devices, as it has been indicated in several reports released on Sunday. The Wall Street Journal reveals that Apple is targeting the release of two foldable models within the next few years.
One of these is a substantial 19-inch device which could be a rival to a desktop monitor while the other one is a compact foldable iPhone boasting a screen which is larger than that of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The Journal also notes that Apple has been working on both devices for several years and the foldable iPhone is expected to hit the market first. A launch is tentatively scheduled for 2026 although it could be delayed by a year.
Bloomberg has further added that the larger device is envisioned as a massive iPad which has been the main focus of foldable efforts of Google, however the company is also actively investigating the foldable iPhone.
Reports have also suggested that the team is making impressive strides towards developing a screen which can eliminate the crease which can be seen in current foldable models.
In terms of the foldable iPad, Bloomberg states that Apple is crafting a device approximately the size of two iPad Pros when they are placed side by side. This expected foldable iPad is supposed to feature a flexible display nearing 20 inches.
While it will likely operate on a version of iPadOS, there are indications that it may also support certain macOS applications. This hybrid design is expected to ensure compatibility with iPad accessories which also includes the Apple Pencil.
The foldable iPad by Apple is projected to make its debut somewhere in 2028. As for the foldable iPhone, Bloomberg reports that it could be out for the users in 2026 aligning with the timeline stated by The Wall Street Journal.
