Meta Acquires the Threads.com Domain Name

| Updated on 30 September 2024

Here is a quick news for you, Meta has now acquired the threads.com domain name. Now, it will make it easier for you to access Meta’s Threads platform on the web.

According to TechCrunch, Meta has now secured the rights to the threads.com domain name. The said domain name was owned by a messaging company that used to operate under the same name.

Until now, we were to go to “threads.net” to access the platform. In the beginning, they couldn’t get the said company part with the domain name. However, the other Threads was sold to Spotify back in June. So, now it does not exist as a separate entity.

A few months later, we see that threads.com is now registered in the name of Instagram. According to website domain registration data, the domain is not owned by Instagram.

It means that soon, you will be able to use the Threads platform with the .com domain. It will not make a huge impact on the user experience or how you use the platform itself. However, it will be easier for you to remember and enter the domain to access the platform.

Since the launch of Threads from Meta, Threads.com has seen a huge spike in popularity. It means that people are visiting the wrong website to access the platform.

Now, it will be easier for users to access the platform with either Threads.net or Threads.com.

However, Meta has not provided any information on how they are going to use Threads.com.
