OpenAI set to reveal orion

OpenAI is ready to unlock potential with its next frontier model code-named Orion reportedly by this year’s end. Unlike its previous release strategies, the company is now planning to first release the model among its trusted partners like Microsoft to build it on customized products and features. The broader roll-out is anticipated to occur in the future.

Orion might be the successor of GPT-4, so there is a high probability that it would be named GPT-5. It is important to note that this is just a probable scenario, the start-up giant has yet to reveal much more detailed information on the upcoming project.

Now, according to the report published by Verge, Microsoft engineers expect to receive access to Orion as early as November.

OpenAI has a long term goal with this upcoming successor. It aims to bring the most powerful AI model by merging its large language models (LLMs) gradually to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI), ultimately creating an even more advanced model.

CEO Sam Altman cryptically teased this earlier through a post on X saying he was “excited for the winter constellations to rise soon.”

A question from ChatGPT about what Altman’s post might mean suggests he’s hinting at “Orion,” the winter constellation that’s most visible from November to February, according to the report.
