Story Highlights Get Their Own Tab on Instagram

| Updated on 21 November 2024

Your Instagram profile display might change in a short while as they are preparing to move story highlights to a new tab on the profile grid.

Story highlights will get their own section within your profile tabs.

As you can see from the image shared by social media expert Lindsey Gamble on Threads, highlights will have their own tab on your profile. They will also show on your main grid as well. However, as of now, it is not clear where on the main grid they will be displayed.

According to the users, this update has been in testing for a long time. Now, the company is confident enough to put it out for general public use.

Independent app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi shared an example of the new profile grid display back in August. Check out his post.

You can see from the example shared by Alessandro; that the new tab will have a rounded heart-shaped icon. In that tab, all story highlights will have their own vertically aligned thumbnail image.

Even Instagram chief Adam Mosserri recently explained this through a story on Instagram. He explained why they are trying to integrate the story highlights into the profile grid.

Here is what he said.

“We’re trying to figure out a way to improve the profile and get more of the content above the fold, and simplify it […] You will still have control, you can still pin things, there’ll be a dedicated Highlights tab, but we don’t need to have pogs and squares and have it be all complicated and pushing everything down.”

So, according to him, Instagram is currently trying to simplify the profile display and move the highlights pogs away. That is why highlights are getting their own tab in the profile grid.

When highlights are moved away from the view, the audience won’t be tapping on your recent story highlights that often. But again, most likely people don’t tap on those anyway, which is why Instagram is considering moving them.
