TikTok Notes: The Company is Launching Photo Sharing App to Rival Instagram

| Updated on 9 December 2024

TikTok has been working with an app for a while that looks a lot like Instagram. It’s all part of the game. Social media companies keep borrowing ideas from each other in this modern world. Instagram introduced Reels back in 2020 to rival short-form content popularized by TikTok. TikTok introduced Stories in 2022, just like Instagram.

Now, TikTok is launching its own version of a photo-sharing app called TikTok Notes.

The company announced the launch of TikTok Notes through their X account. Here is the tweet.

However, it is not available for everyone at the moment. Users only in Australia and Canada can get a preview of the app, as per Android Authority. If you are in that region, go to the App Store or Play Store to download and test out the app.

The new TikTok Notes is a separate app from the main TikTok. It is specially designed for sharing Text and Photos. Looks like it is not just a tweak to the main app but a complete redesign from scratch. TikTok has not given any hint on when the users in the US would be able to get their hands on it.

It may seem that this app is the answer to Instagram but the app layout is completely different. The main homepage feed has a column grid that looks like a mini Pinterest feed.

And the homepage is designed in two parts, ‘For You’ and ‘Following’, just like the main TikTok app.

The layout of the homepage will separate this app from Instagram. With this approach, users can take a peek at a lot more posts. And users can tap on the posts to get the full-screen view.
