Comcast Confirms Huge Data Breach That Exposed Data of 230,000 Customers

| Updated on 10 October 2024

Data breaches have been the norm among major tech companies in recent times. This time a data breach has affected Comcast.

Comcast has confirmed that a massive third-party data breach has exposed the personal information of more than 230,000 customers. This data breach includes social security numbers, names, addresses, and dates of birth of the customers.

Bleeping Computer reported that Comcast filed a report with the State of Maine. In this filing, the company reported that the total number of customers affected by this data breach was 237,703.

According to the company, the information was hacked from Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS). It is a debt collection company that works with Comcast.

In the filing, the company also said that the data breach happened in February, and the FBCS information about Comcast in July.

In the latest filing, Comcast also says that the breached data includes information from around 2021. They also say that they’ve terminated their contract with FBCS since then.

It seems that Comcast has been utterly failing to protect its customer data. This latest data breach can not be attributed directly to Comcast but still, it was their responsibility.

Last year, the company disclosed an even bigger data breach that affected 35 million Xfinity customers. This breach occurred due to a security vulnerability, which hackers were able to exploit.

If the leaked data falls into the wrong hands, it could be misused in more ways than you can imagine.
