What to Expect from Google I/O 2024

| Updated on 13 May 2024

The flagship developer conference from Google is upon us, it will be held on May 14, 2024. At Google I/O, the company is going to announce a lot of exciting stuff.

This year’s Google I/O is expected to make some major AI-related announcements at the event. Here is what we expect Google to announce at Google I/O 2024 based on previous years and rumors.

Next Android Version

We’ve already seen what is to come with Android 15 via a second developer preview, but you should expect to see even more about Android 15 at this event.

The most notable changes in the Android 15 are satellite connectivity and partial screen-sharing options.

Pixel Fold 2

The original Pixel Fold was unveiled at Google I/O 2023, so we expect to see the next version this year. We’ve already seen some rumors about the Pixel Fold 2 and the leaks suggest that we should expect the device around October with Pixel 9 devices.

From what we’ve seen, Pixel Fold 2 will have a completely different design than the original as it was not received well.

AI Features

We expect to see more and more AI improvements or features in this event. The company will pair them with new or existing Pixel devices.

They’ve not been the best when it comes to releasing the features. Hopefully this time they’ll do it better.

Their flagship AI model, Gemini is expected to see some improvements and it may replace Google Assistant in the coming months.

Wear OS 5 and Other Things

This year, they will also improve Wear OS 5. The features will include “advances in the Watch Face Format and how to design and build for the increasing range of device sizes.”

We may get to see a teaser of Pixel 3 as we’ll be seeing the Wear OS 5 this year.

Google always announces some minor updates to its popular products like Google Maps, Google Home, and more.

There is no chatter around AR or VR but Google might surprise us this year.
