Apple has launched its first scripted movie filmed in Apple Immersive Video and unveiled a selection of new immersive films for the Apple Vision Pro. On Thursday, the tech giant revealed new episodes, films, series, and music performances that will debut on Apple Vision Pro for free. Apple Immersive Video is yet another format that offers viewers ultra high-definition 3D video along with Spatial Audio and immerses them in the action, understandably from the standpoint of the audience.

The new movie is called Submerged, written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Edward Berger.

“Apple Vision Pro inspired me to tell a story in a way that just wasn’t possible before, and in the process, it changed the way my team and I think about creating a story. This immersive technology pioneered by Apple is going to change the future of filmmaking,” said Edward.

This 17-minute immersive thriller transports viewers aboard a WWII-era submarine, following the crew as they face a tense attack. With an orientation of 180 degrees, the audience is free to surround, needless to say, and track the action wherever it unfolds. The story is packed with water and chaos, so it’s probably best not to watch it while you’re anywhere near the water.

“Vision Pro places you in the middle of the story — inside a densely packed submarine, shoulder to shoulder with its crew. That deep sense of immersion just wasn’t possible before, and we can’t wait to see how it inspires filmmakers to push the boundaries of visual storytelling,” said Tor Myhren, Apple’s vice president of Marketing Communications, in a statement.
