Catly, the famous cat-themed game has emerged as one of the more peculiar announcements at The Game Awards last week which will quickly draw scrutiny and face allegations regarding the use of AI, NFTs and blockchain. However, the developer of the game, SuperAuthenti has firmly refused these claims.
SuperAuthenti has asserted that no generative AI was involved in either the announcement or the game itself, according to a representative from the PR team expressed his surprise at the rumours. The representative mentioned, “We do not believe there are any AI tools capable of creating a video like that. This sentiment has been echoed by industry experts.”
IGN had the opportunity to view a version of the trailer that consists of both in-progress shots and the final cut which lends credence to the claim that AI was not utilized.
Furthermore, SuperAuthenti has categorically denied that Catly operates on a blockchain or it also incorporated NFTs with it. The PR representative has clarified that their company has never issued any blockchain currency or NFTs and they do not possess any blockchain currency or any NFTs.
In addition to these clarifications, it is worth noting that Catly is developed which makes use of Unreal Engine 5 with some SuperAuthenti employing different software to get hyperrealistic fur as well as hair textures.
Despite these reassurances, the game may still find itself entangled in AI-related controversies. IGN has also highlighted that the art style of the game bears a resemblance to the hyperrealistic aesthetics that are often associated with generative AI.
Some of the promotional artwork features unusual details reminiscent of AI artefacts such as the paws that are oddly shaped and the nose of the cat depicted. As more details and information about the project come up, clarity about the same might be eventually achieved.
