Apple may have discontinued the MacBook’s Touch Bar last year but a group of four engineers still believes that the idea needs reconsideration. They have developed the Flexbar, which is a standalone version of the MacBook Pro’s slim touchscreen display with can be connected to various devices and platforms via USB.
The creators of Flexbar have established a new company named Eniac, their aim is to introduce this accessory to consumers through Kickstarter crowdfunding initiatives. The early supporters are given the opportunity to preorder the device at a reduced price of $119 instead of the full retail price of $179, with its expected delivery soon in February 2025.
The Flexbar is the inaugural product of the company, while they have showcased functional hardware in several videos, there is a degree of risk involved in supporting it. The company in an interview stated that it is procuring competent through standard supply chains and has not disclosed the source of the uniquely sized 10-inch 2K OLED screen.
As an independent device, the Flexbar could be used with a wide range of devices including desktops or laptops that come with operating systems Windows or macOS, in addition to this, it can also work with mobile devices and tablets. It can also be positioned in various ways whether on a keyboard or on its own magic stand.
The Flexbar offers its users dynamic access to interface elements just like Apple’s Touch Bar, the interface elements include playback controls, shortcuts and other tools that can adapt automatically when switched between applications.
If it is employed with image editing software, it can be oriented vertically to mimic the layout of the toolbar of the app making tasks simpler for artists. The Flexbar aims to offer more customizable options to the users than Apple’s Touch Bar provides.
