A new memory capability has been introduced by Google for Gemini that allows the AI to recall the information the users share, enabling the AI to consider preferences for future interactions. TestingCatalog News, a user on X discovered this feature initially, it was further confirmed by Google through a brief video illustrating its functionality.

In one instance, the prompt instructs Gemini to always provide two or three subject line options while it is composing an email for the users. Later, the video shows that Gemini generates an email that consists of three potential subject lines.

Google in its post about the updates mentioned that recording details about the life and work of the users allow them to customize Gemini so that it can enhance efficiency and creativity for the users. It further added that this way more consistent and predictable results can be achieved without any need to repeat any information. The users can retain control over their data while they interact with Gemini as it seamlessly fits into their workflow.

The users can share their personal data and preferences with Gemini, which will then customize its response based on their provided information. This may simply involve telling Gemini not to suggest recipes with mushrooms or any other specification like asking it to include a translation of each line in the responses.

The memory feature is only available in English for the users as of now with a $20-per-month Gemini Advanced Subscription. This feature might also be only limited to the web version of Gemini and is yet not compatible with mobile applications. The new functionality places Gemini at the same level as its major competitor ChatGPT which rolled out its memory feature earlier this year. It operates in the same way, allowing the users to instruct ChatGPT to remember several details that are later on used to tailor responses.
