Google introduced an update for Pixel devices in November 2024 which now finally has included the much-anticipated 80% charging limit. This feature was previously not available from the stable release of Android 15. Initially, it was expected with the Android 15 QPR 1 update in December and Google has surprised the users by making the feature available for the users earlier than it was expected.
However, in recent reports, it was mentioned that the Pixel may occasionally charge to 100% despite the limit being set at 80%. As per research conducted by AssembleDebug, it has been revealed that new information in the charging optimisation section of Google’s Settings Services App of version 1.1.0.697513890.
This information mentioned that the Pixel may sometimes exceed the limit of 80% and charge it to full capacity. The researchers have clarified that the design is not a malfunction instead it is a deliberate design specially chosen by Google. The rationale behind the occasional bypass of the 80% changing limit is further explained in the updated text. The text mentions that this action may occur to modify the estimated capacity.
The device is able to obtain a more accurate assessment of the health of the battery through this process, by permitting the battery to get charged to 100%, the device can change and offer more reliable estimates that are linked to battery life.
Right now, it seems that this feature may not have been rolled out yet and it has not been seen and observed on Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 8a. It is expected that its introduction with the release of the upcoming Android 15 QPR 1, although this remains speculative at this point in time. It is confirmed that the Android 15 QPR 1 will surely consist of a redesigned settings page and may introduce new desktop windowing functionalities for huge devices including the Pixel Tablet.
