Promotion of Variable Image Size Carousels is Now Restricted on Instagram

| Updated on 17 July 2024

This is going to be bad news for brands looking to promote their stuff using variable image size carousels on Instagram. Now, carousels that include full-size images are not eligible for boosting.

Just last month, the company rolled out a new option that enabled users to upload carousel collections of different-sized images. This option provided the users with the option to compose different types of carousel posts.

Have a look at the full-picture option in the image. This was an awesome update to the platform. But now, users are finding out that when they include a full-screen aspect ratio image, they are unable to boost that post. So, this is kind of a bummer for them.

Unable to Boost Instagram posts with full screen image

Just look at the example shared by Ahmad Ghanem. When you go to boost a carousel post that includes a full image, you get an error message. It says, “Posts with fullscreen (9:16) aspect ratio can’t be boosted as ads. Choose a different post to create an ad.”

This could be sad for people who want to use carousels to the fullest.

For now, this seems to be the only restriction on Instagram for the new carousel format. But, users can avoid it if they want to boost their posts. Just don’t post any full-screen images in a carousel to boost your post.
