Apple M4 Macs: Here is Everything We Know So Far

| Updated on 17 April 2024

The famous writer from Bloomberg, Mark Gurman, recently reported that the Macs with M4 chips are set to be released later this year. Gurman suggested that the in-house silicon Apple is nearly complete and expected to start production soon.

And now, Gurman shared a roadmap of exactly when to expect the M4 refresh of Macs.

You may be thinking that it’s a little too soon for an M4 refresh, the M3 chip was launched in October last year. The M3 MacBook Air is just released.

If the rumors are true, the entire Mac lineup is going to be refreshed this time.

Here is the timeline shared by Mark Gurman in his newsletter.

  • A low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4, coming around the end of 2024.
  • A 24-inch iMac with the M4, is also expected around the end of the year.
  • New 14-inch and 16-inch high-end MacBook Pros with M4 Pro/Max chips, due between the end of 2024 and early 2025.
  • A Mac mini in both M4 and M4 Pro configurations, coming between the end of 2024 and early 2025.
  • New 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs, are slated for around spring 2025.
  • A Mac Studio with a high-end M4 chip, coming around the middle of 2025.
  • A Mac Pro with an M4 Ultra chip, due in the second half of 2025.

He also mentioned that Apple has internally tested the M3 Ultra chip, which would be suitable for the Mac Studio and Mac Pro. But he also mentioned that some of the high-end Apple Desktop might skip the M3 chip series.

Apple is likely to emphasize the AI capabilities of the M4 series.
