According to people familiar with the matter, Meta is laying off employees across various departments including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Reality Labs.
This is not a mass layoff, rather this is a smaller-scale job cut. These job cuts coincide with the reorganization of specific teams.
To that effect, some employees have already been posting online that they’ve been laid off. Jane Manchun Wong is one of the employees affected by this. She took to Threads and informed me about this. Have a look.

Jane Manchun Wong gained notoriety for reporting on unannounced features coming to apps before starting working for the Threads team in 2023.
The Verge team reached out to Meta to ask questions on this. Meta responded with a statement.
According to the Verge, Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold said this in a statement.
“Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy. This includes moving some teams to different locations and moving some employees to different roles. In situations like this when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees.”
This new round of layoffs follows a small series of job cuts in the company’s Reality Labs division earlier this year.
In 2022, Meta laid off 11,000 employees. It was due to the over-optimism about the company’s growth after the pandemic. The company also cut more than 10,000 jobs in 2023 when they were trying to be efficient.
