With the release of 24H2, Microsoft’s September security update highlights the “critical vulnerability” and recommends Windows 11 update as soon as possible. Over the past month, the U.S. government updated deadlines also warned users to upgrade aged versions to prevent vulnerability.
There are 900 million Windows 10 users who are warned to update their PC, Windows, or hardware because Microsoft doesn’t support the oldest versions of Windows. Meanwhile, Microsoft declares the end of any technical support for 50 million users of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.1.
Moreover, Microsoft stated, “Windows 11 is the most current version of Windows. If you have an older PC, we recommend you move to Windows 11 by buying a new PC. Hardware and software have improved a lot, and today’s computers are faster, more powerful, and more secure.”
“Microsoft officially recommends a new PC and OneDrive to update to Windows 11,” Neowin says.
It is also revealed that any current PC that runs an older version of Windows is incapable of supporting the latest Windows 11 including PCs that support Windows 10. So, it is advisable if you are among 50 million users, switch to Windows 11 which protects you from serious vulnerabilities.
“An unsupported version of Windows doesn’t receive software updates from Microsoft,” the company warns. “These updates include security updates that protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, which can steal your personal information.”
However, it is expected that Microsoft will soon opt for solutions in the upcoming year (2025) and take severe precautions in terms of safety. You might face sluggishness and slower activity with the older versions of Windows.
