Launched in an internal Jam in 2011 in Epic Games, Fortnite emerged as a new concept and its journey since its induction has been nothing short of extraordinary. At the time of the launch, the post of lead developer was held by Cliff Blenszinski, who departed from the company over a decade ago. Interestingly, not many people are familiar with the fact that it started as a base defence game.
With the debut of the revolutionary battle royale mode, Fortnite has undergone significant evolution and witnessed the inception of new maps, modes and distinctive features referred to as Fortnite experiences.
Experiences was launched in 2023 which empowered the players to create completely new projects with the assistance of Unreal Engine 5 and Fortnite assets. This transformed the game from the original base defence concept into something that can be used by Epic Games as an answer to Roblox. Lately, a new and distinct dimension has been added to the game in an effort to diversify its offerings.
Fortnite Ballistic representing the Unreal Engine’s take on Counter-Strike was launched by The Epic Games a few days back. It marks a significant evolution from its humble beginnings and the concept is undeniably intriguing. Although Fortnite has included a first-person mode since its inception, it has never been particularly effective or refined.
Ballistic will enter early access on December 11 which will consist of both unranked and ranked modes. It is designed as a round-based 5v5 competitive game mode. The launch will also consist of a single map, Skyline 10. Players will have access to a basic set of weapons and a limited selection of items. The game will also include a player economy reminiscent of Counter-Strike. Overall, there does not appear to be anything distinctly differentiating Ballistic from Counter-Strike. While other titles like Valorant, strive to carve out their niche by introducing unique hero abilities. It remains to be seen what will set Ballistic mode of Fortnite apart from its competition except the familiar Fortnite skins.
