Palworld is accused of infringing multiple patent rights held by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. Now, both Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against the Palworld developer.
Palworld developer Pocketpair will face this lawsuit from Nintendo. You can check out the press release from Nintendo about the same.
Here is what Nintendo said in the Press Release.
“Nintendo Co., Ltd. (HQ: Kyoto, Minami-ku, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuntaro Furukawa, “Nintendo” hereafter), together with The Pokémon Company, filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair, Inc. (HQ: 2-10-2 Higashigotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, “Defendant” hereafter) on September 18, 2024.”
“This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.”
“Nintendo will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual properties it has worked hard to establish over the years.”
The Palworld developer Pocketpair also issued a statement in response to this. They said that the company was unaware that they had violated any patents. Pocketpair insists that the company was not notified of such details. However, they will start their investigation into these claims.
Here is what they said in the statement.
“It is truly unfortunate that we will be forced to allocate significant time to matters unrelated to game development due to this lawsuit. However, we will do our utmost for our fans, and to ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.”
Palworld was launched in January 2024 and became one of the first big gaming hits of the year. The game has sold more than 5 million in three days.
Typically, the game is described as Pokémon with guns. Palworld has Pals, the monster your character is working with. Some Pals are remarkably similar to Pokémon and that is why there is an apparent comparison among people.
