OpenAI has unveiled Sora which is an innovative video creation tool which is driven by artificial intelligence, it has sparked debate in recent months. The Sora Turbo product was launched on Monday significantly streamlining the process for users to produce high-definition videos of up to 20 seconds in length making it quicker and more accessible than ever.

OpenAI in an online statement has expressed, “We are rolling out our video generation technology now to allow society the opportunity to explore its potential and collaboratively establish norms and safeguards that ensure responsible usage as the field evolves.”

The organization believed that the initial version of Sora would boost individuals worldwide to discover new avenues of creativity, expand the horizons of video storytelling as well as share their narratives.

With the use of AI-driven technology, the users can now add existing digital content and either extend, blend, remix or create an entirely new material from text. The storyboard feature allows the users to dictate the outcomes for each frame, adding images, text or videos while two community feeds offer fresh and regularly updated content.

OpenAI has also mentioned that it will block any content which appears to be illegal or highly controversial such as sexual deepfakes or any material related to child sexual abuse.

However, the app encountered criticism even before its public release as the experts were very much concerned about the misuse of the videos generated by the AI and the legal implications surrounding copyright issues.

20 artists who have early access to Sora voiced their opposition in an open letter to OpenAI in November and accused the company of using artists to gain acceptance within the global creative community.

The letter by the artists was addressed to AI corporate overlords and it also included a leaked code for Sora; possibly influenced by the leak, the company launched the product to the public.
