Apple is reportedly gearing up for a significant leap into the world of foldable devices as it has hinted at the latest whispers going around in the tech circles. While Android brands such as Google, Samsung and OnePlus have already ventured into this territory, Apple might be on the verge of unveiling a display that boasts no visible crease.
As per rumours, Apple has several foldable devices in development, insights about which are mentioned in the blog on Bloomberg by Mark Gurman who sheds light on a potential folding iPad. This innovative gadget is said to measure the equivalent of two iPad Pros that are placed side-by-side however, Gurman did not specify whether it refers to the 11-inch or 13-inch model.
However, either way, it promises to be a substantial handheld device and as per his sources, Apple aims to launch the foldable by 2028. This timeline allows ample opportunity for Apple to develop a seamless integration between iPadOS and macOS which are essential for users to fully make use of the expansive touchscreen. The iPad Pro M4 showcased an outstanding display, yet its capabilities were somewhat limited by the multitasking features of iPadOS.
The folding device, which is expected to undergo testing by Apple’s design team is said to feature a ‘nearly invisible crease.’ With a potential size which exceeds 20 inches, it may prove to be unwieldy for many to handle like a traditional tablet. Gurman drew parallels to Microsoft’s ill-fated Courier foldable from 2010 through there are a lot of contemporary examples to consider. For context, the largest MacBook Pro measures a comfortable 16 inches and anything which is larger than 18 inches can be cumbersome to transport in most of the backpacks. Hence, a foldable design could be a practical solution for those who are willing to carry a full desktop experience while on the go.
