Samsung has been teasing the next generation Bixby earlier this year that would compete with ChatGPT and Apple Intelligence. Now, finally launched an upgraded version of Bixby with generative AI to its Galaxy phones but with limited availability.

Samsung’s latest Bixby packs advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, like video integration and generative capabilities, however, it’s only available on select devices in China.

Alongside the launch of the Galaxy W25 in China, the company’s region-exclusive variant of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, Samsung has introduced “Next-generation Bixby.” The new AI-powered assistant debuted with the Galaxy W25 and W25 Flip in China, introducing a range of new features.

The new Bixby works just like the old one, however, the key difference lies in the AI, which is now deeply integrated into the Bixby experience. Users can use the Bixby just like anything they used to do before like talking to it, asking about the weather, checking their calendar, playing music, sending a text, and more. It uses generative AI to create responses, similar to ChatGPT or Google Gemini. However, instead of relying on a third-party AI model, Samsung has developed its own.

Four Main Enhancements Highlighted by Samsung of its AI Assistant

The new key features of Bixby focus on multimodal interactions and improved language understanding.

  • Samsung’s upgraded AI assistant Bixby can now include video content in its responses, like adding relevant videos when offering travel recommendations.
  • A new feature for translating web pages has also been added to Bixby’s toolkit.
  • The AI has been enhanced to better understand complex user requests and contextual instructions, with improved natural language processing.
  • Perhaps most impressively, Bixby can now use generative AI to create documents and slideshows based on user prompts, making office tasks more efficient.

Now, those who are wondering about its selected roll-out in China, which is probably due to Samsung first testing out these new enhancements before launching worldwide.
