Back in 2020, we had to stay home and do everything through Zoom meetings, some companies tried to liven things up with AR filters and background replacements. They may have caused some people to smile every once in a while, but they didn’t lift people from the reality of the pandemic.
These filters have stayed around and people enjoy them. In the case of Snap Inc., the company used to have a camera app for desktops that included AR filters, but it was shut down last year. Now, the company is trying to bring the same experience to the desktop but using a different strategy.
Now, Snapchat has added a camera extension for Chrome that can enable AR lenses directly on your webcam. These AR lenses can be used in video calls, live streams, video recordings, and so on. However, in this extension, you will need to sign in with a Snapchat account to use the AR lenses. This extension also has the option for creating custom lenses. However, creating a lens through Snap’s Lens Studio is a tedious task. But hey, it’s giving you another option to explore.
Here is what Snap Inc. said about it. “Elevate your webcam experience with Snap AR Lenses. Whether you’re in professional meetings, catching up with friends, or live streaming, our extension brings the creativity of Snap AR Lenses directly to your webcam.”
So, now you can virtually dress up a potato and help liven up your dull and boring meetings.
This is good news for those who used to love the desktop camera app from Snap.
