At the recent Snap Partner Summit in Santa Monica, Snapchat launched the latest version of Spectacles AR glasses for a creative, immersive experience. They are called the Spectacles ‘24, with exciting improvements to the field-of-view, higher resolution, and hand-tracking capabilities.
The new generation of AR lens studio and spectacles by Snapchat have completely new software and are sold to developers for $100 per month on a one-year commitment (total – $1200). It is a standalone gadget with built-in features for smooth interaction between the real and the imagined world.
Here are the specifications of Snapchat Spectacles ‘24:
It has 37 pixels per degree, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a waveguide optics system that’s completely transparent and feels next-level. With a 46-degree diagonal field-of-view and IPD optical range adjustments between 57mm and 71mm, it is much better than the previous version.
The processor is 2*Snapdragon with Wi-Fi 6 GPS/GNSS connectivity, and a USB-C connector. The hand-tracking, voice, and smartphone controller input is smooth, and the audio in-headset speakers and microphone are extremely efficient. It has a 45-minute battery life that can be extendable with an external battery, and weighs only 226g.
The focus of Snapchat is to make AR technology convenient and accessible for everyone. For this, the company is trying to integrate advanced software that enables interactions built around hand-tracking.
Consumers will also be able to recognize other nearby glasses and seamlessly join their session for a co-located AR experience. There is a ‘spectator’ mode that connects with a smartphone to look into an AR session and join in the fun.
It is the beginning of a new way of socializing where high-tech is an equal partner that helps add creative inputs to enhance the immersive experience.
