Snapchat to Introduce AI-Powered Video Generation Tool for Creators

| Updated on 20 September 2024

Among many announcements from Snap at its 2024 Partner Summit, Snapchat also revealed that users will be able to create short video clips in the app using simple text prompts.

Snap is actually close to launching this feature in the app that will help you create short video clips.

From an example shared by Snap during the summit, you could enter “rubber duck floating” and the system will generate a video clip. There is also a style option to help refine the result.

The company also noted that in the future, the same tool will be able to animate images as well. With the addition of this, its AI capabilities will significantly improve.

Meta and TikTok both have their own text-to-video AI models but they are not available in their respective apps as of now. However, Snap’s feature will soon be made available in the app.

In the first phase, the company will make this AI feature available to a small number of creators in beta form this week. The feature is not yet ready for a broader launch.

So, it seems that Snap will reach there first when it comes to text-to-video models. However, there is no telling when Meta and TikTok could greenlight their AI feature on the app.

According to the company, the video generated by this tool will have a Snap AI watermark. The company is also undergoing development work to ensure that some of the more questionable uses of generative AI aren’t available in the tool.
