X is all set to make another feature behind their paywall. Live streaming on the platform is set to become a premium online feature in the coming days or weeks.
The Live account on the platform notified the users of this news. Have a look at it yourself.
Here is what it said about it. “Starting soon, only Premium subscribers will be able to live stream. This includes going live from an encoder with X integration.”
The company has been adding new features to the platform for premium users. They’ve also been locking some features behind a paywall, like the ability to edit posts, share long-form content, and more.
For now, the company has not shared the timeline for when this change is going to be affected. We are hoping that it will come in a few weeks’ time. Once the live stream is put behind the paywall, it will become the only social media platform that charges users for a live stream session. Its competitors like Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and others allow users to host a live stream on the platform for free.
This looks like another attempt at increasing the number of paying subscribers. Ever since Elon Musk took over the company, they’ve been trying to find ways to boost revenue. It looks like another step in that direction.
A few months Elon Musk even suggested charging new users a small fee for registration and basic features in order to avoid spam on the platform. But that did not materialize.
