Just about a year after they first increased the prices, the Swedish audio streaming platform is again increasing the prices of its subscription in the US. This time they’re increasing the prices for all tiers, even for families. This makes it less attractive now.
From next month subscribers in the US will receive an email detailing the price increase in Premium Duo and Family plans. From now on, the Spotify Premium plan will cost $11.99 a month, up from $10.99.
However, if you are a subscriber of Spotify Duo, then you’ll have to shell out $2 extra a month, now it will cost $16.99. The Family plan will also see an increase from $16.99 to $19.99 a month.
According to this list, Spotify premium has jumped by 30 percent in a year, compared to last year’s hike. The Family plan also increased by 25 percent in the last one year.
Spotify announced this in a blog post and says, “So that we can continue to invest in and innovate on our product features and bring users the best experience, we occasionally update our prices.”
It also mentions that, “Over the next month, subscribers in the US will receive an email explaining what this update means for their subscription.”
The price increase is not limited to the US, last month the company announced the price increase for its international customers as well. Bloomberg reported last month that the company is planning to launch a “Supremium” plan that will have lossless streaming and other features.
Some reddit users have noticed the Dolby Atmos logo on the app’s Now Playing screen in recent months. They think that this could be part of the Supremium feature set to launch in coming months.
