To rival Elon Musk’s X, Meta launched its own app Threads approximately a year ago. Now, the company has reached an impressive milestone.
On its first anniversary, Threads has announced that the platform has reached more than 175 million monthly active users.
Mark Zuckerberg himself posted this on the platform.
Zuckerberg basically launched this app to house the people who were unhappy with Elon Musk taking charge of X. Now, Threads has emerged as a real player in the social media space, piggybacking off of Instagram to establish its presence.
Now the platform seems to have its own audience and it is thriving. There were many platforms that have attempted to take the crown from Twitter/X, but none were able to. Now that Threads seems like a real competition to X, Elon Musk needs to buck up to retain the users he has.
Threads is not sharing the daily active users’ details as of yet. Just like any other social media platform, monthly active users only tell a part of the story the company wants you to know. Threads is still getting a lot of flyby traffic from people who haven’t become regular users.
For now, Threads is a money loser for Meta, though the company can afford it indefinitely. According to industry sources, the execs are thinking about turning on ads in Threads sometime next year. However, the exact monetization plan of Threads is still up in the air.
