TikTok has finally added the group chat feature to DMs so you can send some fun videos to more than one person at a time.
The company announced on Monday, that the new tool will let you add up to 32 people in one group conversation. Users will be able to add friends or followers in the group chat, or friends will be able to add you. There is a caveat, you can only invite mutual friends to chat. If you’ve set your TikTok settings to not receive DMs, then you won’t receive group chat invites.
Available in the DM options menu, users can now add up to 31 friends from the list, 32 including themselves. You can also create a group chat directly from a video in the app, just tap on the Share button and select “Create a group chat with friends.”
However, this option is currently limited to mutual followers. The company is building a number of safety elements around this, especially for teens.
TikTok has never been big on DMs, they’ve focused on this side of social media before. There has been a trend on the other apps to shift towards more intimate and personal conversations with family and friends.
Now, it looks like TikTok is also shifting towards it. To that end, TikTok has released this group chat feature to the DMs. Now, it will help creators boost engagement of their videos.
Apart from this, TikTok has also announced the launch of stickers in DMs. Now, you can fill your group chats with lots of stickers without any hassle.
