It seems that X could be banned in Brazil, with Brazilian Minister for the Supreme Court Alexandre de Moraes issuing a new warning to the company over its failure to comply with the court orders.
Have a look.
In April, the Brazilian Supreme Court ordered X to suppress certain accounts that Brazilian leadership determined to have been spreading false reports and hate speech. However, X didn’t buzz from its decision to not comply with the orders, saying that it was not legal and not within its new “free speech” approach.
Last week, there was a threat of arrest on local staff for its failure to comply with the orders. In a bid to safeguard their employees, X also shut down their Brazilian Office and evacuated its employees.
In response to that, Brazilian authorities have demanded that the company must nominate a legal representative in the region. If they do not nominate a legal representative, the entire platform could be suspended from operating in Brazil from next week.
This could be a big blow for a company that is already struggling to keep users and advertisers happy.
Currently, X has over 21 million users in Brazil. It is the sixth-largest usage market for X. If X is suspended from operating in Brazil, that would cut off a significant number of users and ad opportunities. This is a time when X needs more growth in all aspects.
In recent times, Musk has decided to take a stand on Brazilian leadership and Moraes specifically. He has labeled Moraes as a tyrant and utter disgrace to justice.
So, should Elon be taking a stand against such people in foreign governments?
All the details of the case are not available at the moment, but the company has shared the letter sent by the Brazilian government to censor certain accounts.
