X has now rolled out a new search filter that will enable users to refine the results to posts from verified profiles only. This option is available in the app only.
Check out the above screenshot posted by an X engineer. Here you can see that people can now use the “verified accounts” option in the filter when searching on X. With this, users will be able to hone into results to only those profiled that are paying to use the app. Or to the people who were granted the verification badge shortly after taking it away from all legacy verified accounts.

So, a verified account on X represents that they are either a paying member or a relatively high-profile account. And now, you can filter your search results to only those accounts, if you want.
I don’t know what value it will bring to the users but I guess it’s worth adding the functionality rather than not having it. Less than 1% of users on X are paying members, so users will be limiting the search in a way. It also raises the question of what functionality a verified-only search filter provides.
But X is still doubling down on its verified program and wants users to subscribe to it. If more people opt for X premium account, then maybe a verified-only filter will be of benefit.
