The microblogging social media site X (formerly Twitter) introduced support for passkeys earlier this year. However, it was limited to a number of users who used iOS devices and were based out of the US. But now, the company has decided to extend the passkeys feature to all iOS users globally.
The news of the global rollout of this feature was shared by the Safety team of X on their official X account. They Tweet Says,
“Update: Passkeys is now available as a login option for everyone globally on iOS! Try it out.”
The company also highlighted the fact that using this would make accounts “less susceptible to phishing attacks and unauthorized access.”
Passkeys on X enable fingerprint and face ID login and also use cryptographic data transfer for this process. In simple terms, this means that your login info is stored on your device, which will provide a more secure method for login to your X account.
Various cybersecurity experts are now recommending that Social media platforms implement passkey methods. Recently, TikTok added passkey support for their users and LinkedIn also rolled out the same feature as well.
This feature is now even more valuable to X as they have removed the two-factor authentication using SMS for non-paying users. However, the premium subscribers of X can still use the feature.
