X Now Removes All Ads for Premium Subscribers

| Updated on 9 August 2024

X is now allowing users to avoid ads entirely on the platform. For those paying for an X Premium+ subscription, the experience on the platform is about to get better and better.

Here is what X posted on the platform.

For the Premium+ subscription on X “no ads” was the key attribute, but that didn’t apply to all the places on the platform. Let’s look at the original ad-free attribute of X Premium+.

“Premium+ tier subscribers see no ads in the For You and Following Timelines. This feature does not apply to promoted content elsewhere on X, including but not limited to ads on profiles, ads in post replies, ads in Immersive Media Viewer, promoted events in Explore, promoted trends, and promoted accounts to follow.”

So, the Premium+ subscribers would still see ads in elements like profiles, search pages, and post replies. These ads were crucial for creator monetization.

Now, let’s look at how X has updated their Premium+ subscription.

“Subscribers to the Premium+ tier will enjoy an ad-free experience across most areas of X, including the For You timeline, Following timeline, post replies, and profiles, ensuring a smoother and more uninterrupted content experience.”

This means that post-reply ads will not be shown to the Premium+ subscribers. However, they note that Premium+ subscribers might still occasionally see sponsored content outside of X’s standard ad inventory.

For the most part now, X will be a complete ad-free experience for the Premium+ subscribers.

This is in line with what Elon Musk wants from the platform. He wants to remove all ads from the platform and move away from ad revenue to subscription revenue.
