X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, may soon bring a new feature on the platform that will allow users to downvote replies and improve how replies are ranked.
It is not officially announced by the company, but reports indicate that they are testing the downvote option for replies. A new variation of its downvote option appeared in the back-end code of the app this week.
An X user, P4mui posted this on their account.
He says that the company now has a new downvote button in production, which hasn’t been released for public testing as of yet. By looking at the image, the feature looks to be close to launch.
As you can see from the above image, the new UI button on replies looks like a broken heart, just opposite to a heart for like. This new UI button will be displayed on the replies only and not on the actual posts themselves.
So, it looks like users will be able to downvote the replies but not a new post. It will be beneficial for creators as the new feature would help the platform rank better replies for a given post. In turn, this would maximize engagement on the platform.
A spammy reply that is ranking on top would eventually shift down the line after a lot of downvotes. As more users vote down junk replies, it’ll become less effective to reply to popular posts purely for engagement. This would discourage spammers to refrain from such activities. Eventually, X would become a good platform.
