YouTube shorts are getting a big benefit of AI tools through Google’s DeepMind video generation model. This exciting new feature, Veo, allows videos to include AI-generated backgrounds. Users can also use written prompts to generate stand-alone, six-second video clips.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, however, the Veo AI background feature will be officially launched later this year, and the six-second AI clips will be available in 2025. Moreover, YouTube is also promoting additions of other new features, such as its Studio App to generate titles, thumbnails, and video ideas, which will also roll out in the last months of 2024.
However, the Google generative AI Veo has some creators worried about spam and the manipulation of their content by AI. Dismissing these concerns is the fact that all AI-generated content will be watermarked and will have a label indicating that it was created by artificial intelligence.
As YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said, we “really sit at the nexus of bringing technology and creativity together, which gives us this unique lens that everything we build is really about enhancing that human creativity.”
Just like AI integration in varied industries is rapidly transforming the workflow, this YouTube feature also remains to be seen as impactful for creators or not. There have been some instances of copyright issues that need to be addressed soon. For now, it shows a good signal for content creators with more automation tools to play with and enhance productivity.
