YouTube Premium is likely the most contentious paid version of a streaming platform. There is a good reason for that as well. There are not many services out there that offer free access to everything if users are willing to watch some ads.
Sometimes YouTube will make users sit through more than one or two ads. Now, we found that YouTube has been testing some things to give users a way to cut down on those ads.
It does not mean that users will have to buy a full premium subscription to the platform. Google has brought back its Premium Lite version of subscription and is testing it for some countries.
Premium Lite was a half-priced YouTube Premium plan that allowed people to watch videos without ads. But there is a catch with it. It does not allow features like, background playback, YouTube Music, and other things. So, if you subscribe to the YouTube Premium Lite, you will only stop seeing ads on the platform. There are no extra perks on this subscription version.
It was a valuable proposition for some users as most of them cannot afford to buy full YouTube Premium. The Premium Lite was a subscription model available for some regions in the past, but YouTube shut it down last year.
However, now we are learning that YouTube Premium Lite is available again to some users. Android Authority reached out to Google for a comment on this, and the company confirmed the news.
Google said that they are testing a different version of Premium Lite and some users in Australia, Germany, and Thailand may see the option to sign up with this subscription model.
Even after the confirmation, there is still uncertainty about the future plans of Google. How is this version of Premium different or will they expand it to other countries? These are some of the questions that arise.
Well, it’s possible that we may get the answers in the coming months.
