Google has increased the YouTube Premium prices in several countries, surprising many of its subscribers who were not expecting any change so soon. The hike is in selective European, U.S., and some Asian countries, with Europe facing a 40% jump in the cost of its family plan.
The message emailed to Premium subscribers is as follows:
YouTube is the most preferred video streaming platform for creators to showcase their talent, and the support is promised in the email. However, for Apple users, the cost has become even steeper with some reporting a 60% price hike.
Many users are ready to cancel their Premium subscriptions, with experts still weighing in on the competition with other video platforms and the number of features released by YouTube this year. More services come at a price, with several customers unhappy with this price hike.
Additionally, YouTube has been experimenting with different advertising features on TV, limited ads, or ad-free options, which further annoy users as they interrupt the video they are watching. The music listening experience as well as educational videos also gets impacted by the ads, putting many users in a spot to choose other platforms.
We are not sure if increasing the prices will work in favor of Google, but for now, users have to make a hard choice between keeping their subscription or losing on Premium features.
