Gmail users on Android devices can now access Gemini directly from the app. The AI assistant will be able to help the users with their emails in the Gmail app.
According to a blog post, Google announced a new feature called Gmail Q&A for users who pay for Gemini. The new feature will be able to help the users with their emails. Currently, this is only available on Android devices, support for iOS devices will be coming in the future.
With Gmail Q&A, users can access Google Gemini in the Gmail app as a personal assistant that reads into all your emails in the account. Google said that users will be able to ask Gemini to summarize emails by saying things like, “Catch me up on the emails about quarterly planning.”
Google also mentioned that users can use it to search for specific details like asking “How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?”
Well, you may have to be content with the occasional hallucinations that plague even the best AI models available in the market. So, don’t just take everything at face value.
Traditionally, when someone wanted to search on Gmail, there was a search bar available at the top of the app. Google is not removing that, Gemini button will be added right next to the search bar. Now, it will be a lot easier for users to search for details inside Gmail.
With this, Google is pushing users to use chat-based Gemini AI instead of search. They want the users to use an AI chatbot to summarize the info they are looking for. When giving you the summary, it will still give a reference to the source email in its answer.
Starting from now, paying users on Gmail can use this feature by tapping on the black star logo right next to the search bar. This logo has come across every Google product to represent Gemini. For now, Gemini can only access your emails, but Google says that in the future it will also have access to your Drive as well.
