Intel Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPU Refresh Reportedly Canceled

| Updated on 27 September 2024

It is reported that Intel has taken a back seat on its Arrow Lake-S refresh desktop CPU family as the new lineup is now canceled.

According to a rumor, Intel has canceled the Arrow Lake-S refresh to focus on the next-gen Nova Lake for desktops.

Intel’s Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs under the Core Ultra 200 series were expected to launch in October next month. However, according to the current rumors, we should forget about the launch.

The new CPU was supposed to feature an upgraded NPU and a larger die size. But now it seems that we aren’t going to see them in reality.

This rumor comes from a Chiphell Forum member, Panzerlied, who has been a reliable source of information when it comes to CPU and GPUs. Last time, the user reported some specs and parameters of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs.

In a reply to another user on the forum, Panzerlied stated that the Arrow Lake-S has been canceled for two years. So, the original lineup will now be competing against AMD for at least two years on the desktop platform.

In previous rumors, we heard that the new Arrow Lake-S is supposed to have some extra cores/threads. Now it looks like Intel is so confident in its product that it can wait for two more years till the next generation of Nova Lake CPUs for a desktop release.

The new Arrow Lake-S CPUs were supposed to be compatible with the LGA 1851 socket and the current rumors suggest that Nova Lake will stick to the same socket.

So, if we look at the timeline of the release, they will be competing against Zen 5 chips such as Ryzen 9000X3D. The new CPUs from AMD are supposed to deliver strong gaming performance and it will be a test for Intel to tackle that.
