X is Now Active in Brazil After Complying with Government Requests

| Updated on 11 October 2024

X users in Brazil are now happy that the platform is returning to the country once again.

Unless you were among the users who believed that X should not have been banned in the country in the first place. If you think Elon was right to do this by taking a stand on Free Speech, then this might be a blow to your principles.

This is a big blow to Elon as well because he made a lot of noise complaining about the corrupt Brazilian authorities.

However, this might be a good day for everyone else. Around 20 million users of Brazil can now return to X and use the platform they were using in the first place. It’s time for them to abandon Threads or Bluesky. Both of these platforms had surged in the country after the ban on X.

Bloomberg reports that the top court justice of Brazil Alexandre de Moraes has officially confirmed an end to X’s suspension in the country. It comes after X agreed to remove selected users’ accounts, as per Brazilian Government orders. The social media platform has also appointed a new legal representative in the country.

Initially, X protested about the account removal and took a stand of free speech. There was a lot of back and forth between Elon Musk and the Brazilian Supreme Court.

But after a month of being banned in the country, X backed down and complied with Brazilian censorship demands

Well, is that good or not? There is no definitive answer to this as there were some complications of Musk’s personal biases in this case.

Now, X is ready to play ball, in order to be back in the country.

However, the company had to pay $5 million in fines related to its stance in Brazil before being able to operate again in the country.
