As previously reported, Apple is partnering with OpenAI to put ChatGPT into Siri. The company announced this news at its WWDC 2024 event.
The company will bring ChatGPT to iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia later this year for free. The company also announced that users won’t have to log in to their ChatGPT account to use it. it also mentions that user queries won’t be logged.
The popular chatbot will also be integrated with the writing tools in iOS 18. Furthermore, premium ChatGPT subscribers will be able to link their accounts to access premium features from OpenAI within Apple’s OS.
Have a look at the image above to see how Apple is bringing ChatGPT to Siri. Here is a quote from Apple and OpenAI.
“Apple users are asked before any questions are sent to ChatGPT, along with any documents or photos, and Siri then presents the answer directly.”
The company says that Siri will be able to tap ChatGPT for expertise where it might be helpful for users. For example, you can ask it for menu ideas for a meal to make for friends using some ingredients from your garden. Siri will automatically feed the information to ChatGPT after you permit it to do so.
This is a long-awaited partnership for Apple as the company strives to integrate AI features in its OS and bring its devices on par with the competition. For this, Apple was in talks with both OpenAI and Google to integrate their AI systems within their OS. In the end, Apple chose to go with the OpenAI route to provide AI features in their system.
Today, Apple said that the company will be using the GPT-4o model that is going to power the ChatGPT in Apple devices. This new model will be made available with iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia later this year.
Apart from system wide ChatGPT features and Siri upgrade, the company also announced some of its own AI features. The company is calling its own AI features Apple Intelligence.
