Starlink Introduces New Plan to Stop Scalpers

In a bid to stop resales, Starlink has come up with a new solution. The company said that it would impose an “out of area fine” for its satellite internet kits “outside of the region they were originally sold in.”

So, if a reseller buys a satellite dish from one region where the hardware is cheaper and sells in another, it would impose a fine for activating the dish.

Currently, Starlink only has the US and Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania regions. The company also said that a fee might be applied to the activations, but it’s not a certainty. However, it’s a big discouragement for people to be doing this. Now, most of the resellers would stop doing this as it will not be a profitable business.

The company said that for the Standard and Standard Actuated kits, the fee is $200. However, the fee for Starlink Mini is $300. The fee is in US currency. However, the company also said that the fee “may be applied in USD or local currency.” This could make things worse for people as it would end up being even more extensive based on the currency exchange.

They also shared a breakdown of which regions will be charged the fee in the US or local currencies.

To avoid this fee, Starlink recommends the users purchase the dishes from them or from an authorized retailer in your region.
