YouTube Music has been the music app of choice for millions of users worldwide. It comes optionally bundled with YouTube Premium. The service offers unofficial tracks and covers that aren’t available elsewhere.
Despite its popularity and availability, a key feature has been missing from the app. Up until now, the app does not allow users to upload custom playlist thumbnails. Its rival companies like Spotify and Apple Music let users customize their playlists with personal thumbnails. YouTube Music had AI-generated Thumbnails.
But that is going to change now as the company has started testing the feature on the app.
According to a user, who shows a screen recording of his computer, the feature works. This highly requested feature could significantly enhance playlist personalization on the platform.
From what we can see from the video, we can say that the user was able to upload custom playlist thumbnails using the YouTube Music web client.
According to the video, now there is a new option to upload a custom image from the library for a playlist thumbnail on the YouTube Music app. There seems to be a new pencil icon that lets users pick from images saved on their computers or mobile devices. From the same pencil icon, you can completely remove or replace a previously uploaded image altogether.
According to 9to5Google, this feature is not yet available to a wide range of users. Apart from the video creator on Reddit, no one seemed to make it work.
It looks like YouTube Music has not yet launched this feature. However, the user had been able to somehow make it work.
We are not sure when this addition to the app will be made available to more users. Google often tests some features that don’t get shipped in the stable releases. We can only be optimistic about this one.
