The shopping marketplace of TikTok is evolving and the company has published a report about it. In this report, the company has shared its insights into the growth of TikTok shops and its expanding efforts to facilitate safe and secure shopping in the app.
It is still a work in progress as it hasn’t caught up with most users in the Western markets. However, the company is doing pretty well in China because in-stream commerce is now the key money maker for the local version of the app in China.
Now, TikTok is trying to replicate the same model in the western markets like the US and Canada. The new report from TikTok shows that it is seeing varying amounts of success in some regions. However, the push for TikTok shops is moving at a much slower pace.
Here is what TikTok said in its report.
“TikTok Shop is defining a new shopping culture, one that’s rooted in discovery, and fosters connections among sellers, creators, and the TikTok community. Since 2021, TikTok Shop has expanded from Southeast Asia to the United Kingdom, and most recently, to the United States in 2023, growing a community of more than 15 million sellers around the world. This new shopping experience empowers people to discover and buy products from their favorite creators and brands while providing brands, sellers, and creators the tools to sell products directly on the TikTok app.”
They also shared some numbers about the shop. If you want to take a look at the numbers, go ahead and read that report.
Apart from growth, this report also mentions how they are evolving the safety measures, and providing tools to protect intellectual property rights. Recently, Joe Biden signed a bill to sell or ban TikTok in the US. So, most of us are waiting to see what will happen to the app.
