X has updated their guidelines relating to adult content. The company says, “You may share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior, provided it’s properly labeled and not prominently displayed.” It means that you cannot use it as a profile picture or banner.
This was first spotted by TechCrunch. The Safety account of X also posted a statement via their handle.
They said, “We have launched Adult Content and Violent Content policies to bring more clarity of our Rules and transparency into enforcement of these areas. These policies replace our former Sensitive Media and Violent Speech policies – but what we enforce against hasn’t changed.”
X didn’t explicitly ban porn and it became home for NSFW creators after the launch of Twitter Blue (now Premium). This allowed the creators to encourage their followers to pay to view content, just like OnlyFans. This may be another option for X to increase their revenue.
The NSFW creators will have to tweak their settings a bit to mark the images and videos they post as sensitive content. New rules to adult content on X apply to all adult content including AI-generated, photographic, or animated. Users who are not 18 or haven’t entered their date of birth won’t be able to view NSFW content. The new guidelines also ban “promoting exploitation, nonconsent, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, and obscene behaviors.”
Back in March, the company said that it would start letting NSFW communities apply an “Adult Content” label to prevent posts from getting filtered out automatically.
