TikTok Launches Whee, An Instagram Look Alike Image Sharing App

| Updated on 9 December 2024

TikTok is trying out yet another app as the company wants to expand engagement opportunities. They recently launched a new image-sharing app called Whee.

TikTok is positioning this new app as a photo-sharing platform with only your close friends.

“Capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self.” This is the caption shared by the company on the Google Play description page.

But hang on! Didn’t they just release an image-based app? Yes, they did.

TikTok released an app called Notes back in April, which is also a photo-sharing app. This also looked like Instagram.

It seems that the company is testing the waters with its new app. The Whee app is now available on Android in a few countries, but not in the US.

The company emphasized that the new Whee app primarily focuses on showcasing photos shared by friends on your feed. Whether or not it will implement TikTok’s algorithm to push content, remains to be seen. Or will it display ads in the future?

According to the reports, there is no option for a direct sign-up on the app, you need to use your TikTok account to log in. So, if you are not registered with TikTok, you will need to create an account with the parent company first to use the Whee app.
