| Updated on 17 April 2024

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Tesla sales have declined for the first time since 2020. Now, we are hearing that the company is planning to cut its workforce.

According to an internal memo seen by Electrek, Tesla is planning to lay off more than 10% of its global workforce. This will impact more than 14000 employees worldwide. It is not clear which teams will be impacted most.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla said in an email published by Electrek that “there is nothing I hate more, but it must be done. This will enable us to be lean, innovative and hungry for the next growth phase cycle.” Musk also elaborated further on X “About every 5 years, we need to reorganize and streamline the company for the next phase of growth.”

This layoff will also impact the top executives at Tesla. Tesla senior vice president Drew Bagliano is also leaving as part of this layoff. He has been with the company for the past 18 years and worked with them in several roles.

Another Tesla executive, Rohan Patel, the head of Public Policy is also set to leave the company.

The company has been in the news for the wrong reasons for a couple of months. This is the latest in that installments.
